Minister blocks plans for ‘too big’ house
Tuesday 27th July 2010, 2:58PM BST.

The proposals were for a new building on the site of the red-roofed La Falaise to the right of The Cliff
PLANS for ‘a carbuncle of industrial size’ overlooking St Aubin have been rejected by Environment Minister Freddie Cohen, who has criticised the decision to allow a similar development on the neighbouring plot.
Planning officers recommended approval of a luxury four-bedroom house, but Senator Cohen rejected their advice and turned down the application last week.
He says that the impact of the neighbouring property – former Formula One racing driver Derek Warwick’s house The Cliff – shows that decisions on major developments in sensitive locations have to be considered carefully.

BIRD WATCH 2012

The 11th Great Garden Bird Watch took place over the weekend, Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 February. JEP readers were asked to get on board to help monitor bird life in the Island.
Well said, Freddie! (can’t believe I’m actually saying that AND agreeing with him).
I would love to see more contemporary architecture on the island (puts me in the minority, I know), but that monster of Derek Warwick’s is a very poor effort at good design. Shame on the architect and P&E for allowing that to get passed – what a shocker.

So how come the incinerator managed to escape his notice – a carbuncle on the waterfront!
