The hotel directors are the ones who should be leading the tourism drive

From Colin Toudic.
WITH Jersey suffering with a downturn once again in visitor numbers, it is a great idea and not before time that the top hotel directors are now working together to promote the Island.
This is great news, as they can now pool all their resources and experience for Jersey Ltd.
The hotel directors would need two politicians to sit on their committee so that they can advise States Members what the hotel group are promoting, and then the Tourism Fund money would be voted to go straight to the marketing campaign they propose.
This would cut out the time wasted trying to get through to committee after committee, meeting after meeting.
It could now be a good time to disband the Tourism Office department, who apparently have not a lot of visitors to talk to.
This would certainly save the taxpayer a few million pounds. Then maybe lease the building to interested parties. If we the public own it, this would then save more money.
A kiosk in Liberation Square with four part-time employees handing out brochures and information to visitors would be money well spent. Great idea! It sounds too simple.
I wonder if the Treasury Minister has the courage to make such a move.
