THE eternal question of exactly how many people live in Jersey will be answered next year.

A small army of 200 data collectors are going to be employed to help count exactly who is resident in the Island at midnight on 27 March.

That is the date on which the next census will be conducted to gauge how the population has changed since the last head count in 2001.

And this date may not include all the labour force that arrive from Europe on 6/8 month contracts. It’s a pity it was being done at the end of April.

Perhaps we should have a sweepstake?

Will there be one done in the summer too, we all know the numbers are different during the summer, with short stay residents.
This seems a bit strange why this is being done in march.
