A FLYBE passenger who was quoted more than £700 for an extra suitcase used Jersey Airport’s post office to send the case home – for just £14.

The passenger, a nurse who was returning home to Scotland after completing a three-month contract, was astonished when check-in staff at the Airport told her that the extra case containing her uniforms would cost £730 to take to Edinburgh.

But a quick-thinking friend of Gill Bowie suggested using the small post office in the departures hall, which quoted a £14 delivery charge from Jersey to her home in Fife.

Typical of the grasping, greedy and inflexible approach of Flybe. No none can tell me they would need to load £700 of extra fuel to carry this case, they must have tolerances.
All the low cost airlines need to learn that low cost does not equal low customer care. I for one always avoid Flybe when ever I can for that very reason.
In general flying is a depressing business at the best of time as one is made to feel a criminal for just thinking about travelling this way, this just makes it worse!!!

Everything in Jersey is second rate from flights sailing for first rate prices, and we wonder why visitors have deserted jersey, they have other options,we haven’t!
Now lets see them try and wriggle out of this one.no doubt they will think of some excuse or other blame staff for error—–well you ain,t fooling any-one,you have been ripping us off for years, and if we had more choices we would,nt have to use your airline at all and would get a much better service!

When told I was going to have to pay an extra £30 (seemingly a bargain compared to this case!), I asked the lady at the desk if the overweight bloke at the back of the queue would have to pay for excess weight.
“No, providing his bags are within the limit”

“Why not? He’s got to weigh 20kgs more than me, and the plane still has to carry that weight”

    “Errr…ok, I’ll let you off.”

There are two sides to every story and it would be interesting to hear Flybe’s version.

Their charges for taking an additional bag are normally nothing like £750. But anyone travelling on any airline should check what their allowance is and what the excess charges are before booking and not simply turn up at the airport with an additional suitcase.

At the end of the day Flybe make their position very clear! The rules regarding baggage and other charges are described on the website. It also clearly states that you must agree to the Terms and Conditions when booking. If you do not check these then I am afraid that you the consumer are at fault. They offer some very reasonable fares to far flung places in the UK and are generally cheaper than the competition. Also, they are the UK’s most punctual airline (accoding to recent statistics).

You guys make me laugh when you say that you don’t like Flybe….who else is there??? Bmibaby, BA etc fly to a limited number of destinations and in the main their charges are greater! Look at the final price you pay when booking a flight…not the headline rate and stick to the rules!!! Airlines make their profit by charging for excess baggage, teas and coffees etc.

Thanks Spud@25 for letting us know that most of Scotland, through their national newspaper, know they can come to Jersey and buy some wonderful presents for friends at home. Having had a wonderful holiday it will then be spoilt by charging so much for an extra case, giving Jersey also a bad name.

I paid £300, booked in advance, with Easyjet for 2 extra cases( Gibraltar to London), and then a further £700 with Flybe (London to Jersey). I was in a very bad state emotionally at the time and just needed my things with me. I tried to buy extra seats etc but the best they would do was upgrade me so I got a few extra kilos.
My friends were horrified, and told me to complain, but I have never got round to it.
I note now on the website that you can actually book extra luggage in advance, an option that was not open to me at that time.

Ryanair will charge you £40 just for not printing off your own boarding pass….does a peice of A4 and some ink cost £40 i wonder….of course not but its their way of making extra revenue. According to http://www.flybe.com/flightInfo/baggage.htm the cost of excess baggage is as follows:

£12 per kilo for the first 3 kilos
£15 per kilo for the next 3 kilos
    £20 per kilo thereafter

    This is per sector

So if your total luggage is 17kg over the 20kg allowance you’d pay:

    £36+£45+(20×11) = £301

as the lady was flying Jersey-Southampton followed by Southampton-Edinburgh I can see how the total could get to £602… perhaps her 1st bag was over the limit too?

Toby: excess weight is charged for differently to paying for an additional bag. If the lady had paid in advance for an additional bag, her total baggage limit would have been 40kg and she’d probably have been ok…

I am not defending their policy – I think it is a rip-off too!

If you think Flybe is bad then check our BMI’s prices for extra cases and weight – low cost tickets to extortionate prices for anything over 18kg (which is far too low for people travelling to Jersey on holiday). BMI charged you £10 (which I believe has now increased unless you pay online for extra weight) for each kilo over and above exactly 18kg (1 ounce over and you paid) – I had no choice recently and had to bring back an extra 12kg from university. I had asked previously if I could pay for another bag and they refused. I would have had to pay £120 to BMI so I went to the local post office, bought a box and sent the books back to myself in Jersey. They arrived the next day and I only paid £24.00 with insurance. These so called low cost airlines attract passengers with their prices and them hit them hard when they have no choice at the airport. I know there are rules but being proportionate and reasonable is all that it takes to keep the passengers smiling and using them. Unfortunately BMI is like the gestapo at East Midlands and there is no choice but to use them if you fly to Jersey from there unless you go to Birmingham and use Flybe!! I wish British Airways flew to these places. They may seem more expensive but in the long run they look after their passengers!

It is actually very affordable to take excess baggage with you when flying on Flybe, you just have to plan in advance and book and extra bag for £28. This allows you an extra 20kgs.

One interesting phenomenon I’ve noticed lately at both Jersey and Gatwick FlyBE check in desks is that their scales seem to add weight and I wonder if they comply (in the UK) with the weights and measures act?!

On the past three occasions when returning from the USA my luggage has mysteriously gained 2kgs in weight between the scales on check in “State side” and when I then check my bag in for my connection home at Gatwick. Also I have weighed my bags at home before leaving for the airport to find a similar magical weight gain at the Jersey counters.

I strongly suggest that if anyone is a few kgs over the limit that they demand to see a certificate showing when the scales were last calibrated!

Personally I’d love to see Blue Islands become the main airline in Jersey. They actually seem to have been on a customer service course!

Only hinted at in previous posts, surely the only equitable solution is to weigh every passenger with his/her luggage.
The airlines should be able to fix a fair inclusive weight maximum and then charge per kilo for any excess on clearly published terms.
Parties of two or more should be ‘averaged’ together.
This might upset the occasional obese traveller but it would put to an end the present nonsensical state of affairs.
I have yet to travel with FlyBe without feeling ripped off by the basic fare alone – just try booking an urgent (within 7 days) flight at short notice.

I do the occasional check in shift up at the airport.

There are two sides to this argument.

The charge is extortionate, and one has to question whether charging so much is actually moral. But who nowadays expects to turn up at check in with two heavy bags and not have to pay a penny?

Everything, however, is clearly spelt out on each airline’s website. This is the same for airport check-in charges, hand baggage sizes, baggage weight etc etc. Don’t come and kick off at us because you couldn’t be bothered to read everything.

Staff aren’t being awkward, if I check in another bag and no payment is received for it, there is a real possibility that it comes out of my wages – and as much as I feel sorry for you having to pay for extra bags/weight/check in charges – I ain’t about to pay for it myself. *Learn* for next time and plan accordingly.

And stop banging on about “rip-off Jersey”… Flybe would have charged exactly the same amount from any other airport in the UK. Typical Beans: Everything’s so Jersey-centric.

We were lucky to know this because at the moment my Husband stiil works for Jersey Post and he was in the know. How Flybe come up with these costs I haven’t a clue but to be fair their charges are all laid out clearly when you purchase a ticket. I don’t know how Flybe’s website can be considered legal. Its a minefield of charges and extras that you actually have to UNCLICK if you don’t want them added to your bill.Anyone who is not completely computer literate must find it a nightmare. When ordering a flight its necessary to concentrate long and hard on each step to make sure your not paying for something you don’t want. Its not uncommon for a flight headlined at £12.99 to end up costing £167.00.And as for their creditcard charges, what a joke.It would be intereseting to know what their profit margins are.Maybe the BBC program ‘Secret Tourist’should have a look at them.
Its also their totally unflexible attitude that makes for very poor customer service. Not only that, even when you are on the plane you still have to pay for a cup of tea or a biscuit. In my opinion their position is indefensible. They are a RIP OFF.

You might also remember the very hard to explain incident when a Jersey Airlines Heron removed a metre or so off the top of a trawler’s mast near the Minquiers.

I was berthed in Granville alongside the casualty and the fisherman were amazed that the plane survived. It was the only trawler in the fleet with a wooden mast and not a steel one!

It would take a lot off excess baggage charges to pay for an incident like that nowadays.

I flew with Flybe recently and had no real complaints. They are no better and no worse than other airlines – they were on schedule and the flight was uneventful. I had no problems with my luggage and the Dash 8 had smooth take offs and landings. I also flew with them last year and they were fine – better than KLM who made a mega faux pas with over bookings.

What a bunch of losers on this board!!! You are obviously all so incompetent as to be incapable of reading/understanding a simple website. READ THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS GENIUSES.

As for “Ripoff Jersey”, its not JUST in Jersey that Flybe are a ripoff you bunch of mensa candidates, its everywhere, but so are all low cost airlines, take a look at their websites to compare… Oh, i forgot, the majority of you can’t turn a computer on… Take my word for it then!

To the brainiacs that want Ryanair (or other “low cost” airlines) here, yeah, they dont have any bad press do they!!! Ryanair wanted the States of Jersey to pay THEM to operate out of Jersey… Just what we need at the moment, taxpayers money going to an airline so cheapskates can pay £10 less to go and buy their XXXL cloths from Primark.

And the Einsteins that want to get rid of Flybe altogether… Who exactly do you think will replace them… I’m waiting… Still waiting… Thats right, NO ONE will replace them, because Jersey just isnt economically viable for other airlines that don’t already have an infrastructure set up here and they can use their aircraft/airport slots for more profitable destinations.

Although i think it should happen (i am average weight), i would love to see you lot go apoplectic if airlines did start charging by the weight of any given fatty!

I’m a bean myself, but this board just shows how inbred and greedy the average Jersey person is (at least on here), you all want everything for nothing, but none of you have the brains to actually work out how to get something slightly cheaper, or when things really aren’t as bad as your towering intellects would have you believe.

As far as i can gather, the majority of the people on this board want an airline that:
1: Will come to your front door to make the booking.
2: Will pay YOU to fly with them.
3: Will send a limo to take you to and from the airport (departure and arrival airports).
4: Will allow you to transport the entire contents of your house and carry your car in some kind of aircraft backpack if you so desire.
5: Will provide a personal cleansing service should you use the aircraft toilet.
6: Will serve caviar & champagne, free of course.
7: And finally, all airline personnel to flagellate themselves at your request.

And before anyone answers this message, with, “WE JUST WANT AN AIRLINE THAT IS FAIR” (said in a whingy voice), then please, feel free to move to this magical fairy land where that is a reality… and then let the rest of us know where it is!!!

    Still… gotta laugh!!!

i absolutely agree with John #56 regarding his Jersey ‘rip=off’ point. It’s sooo boring now – what a bunch of victims! Flybe charges have nothing to do with Jerseys rip-off culture (if it has one). They are simply to do with the airline being an increasingly penny-pinching, money-grabbing organisation who think they are clever in finding crazy ways of extracting more cash from their customers. They clearly have no respect for their customers and these charges seem to confirm that they consider them all to be stupid. BlueIslands to Southampton is my choice – may have to train or drive the other end but these guys deliver a great service and deserve our business

My father worked for Jersey Airlines and as I said in an earlier posting, I had a summertime job at the airport in the 60s. I recall seeing a D.H.Heron taking off on runway 27 (I think), hugging the ground until it reached the end and then doing a tactical take off then climbing steeply over St. Ouen’s….I don’t think excess baggage was on that pilot’s mind…..I believe he was repositioning or testing the plane. The crews were real characters in those days.

Sorry to burst the bubble, but Ryanair are worse than Flybe in my opinion.

They have too many hidden charges. You seklect a flight that suits you for timing and price then by the time you get to pay for it there are several other charges added on top…..luggage (which should be included as standard), taxes etc. When you’ve wasted several hours to compare to other airlines for the best value this is a pain in the aris.

Personally, I find Easyjet one of the best low budget airlines. There are plenty of destinations and you pay the charge they show on the website….no hidden extras.

So what if there is no seat selection or anything flash….I treat these low budget airlines as a glorified taxi for short hauls.

However, long haul is a different matter……always go with a reputable airline ;-)

BMI Baby is the worst – they charge you per bag that you want to put in the hold, but once you have decided to take a bag, you are no longer allowed to check in online. You have to check in at the airport. Which is a £10 fee per person per flight, so even though it looks like you are only paying £12.99 for each bag, each way for only 18kg worth of allowance (less than most other airlines), you actually have to pay £22.99 per bag per 1 way flight.

Both BA and Flybe let you check in online and drop your luggage off at the airport with no additional charge.

FlyBe can explain until they are blue in the face but the bottom line is that £730 is totally unacceptable & inequitable. Yes I expect to pay for excess baggage, but there has to be a sensible limit on the excess and the charge therefor. Living on an island we have no choice but to fly on most occasions. The airlines however (not just to/from Jersey) are wanting the client to do all the work, penalising them mightily if they get anything wrong, then being totally inflexible when a one-off out of the ordinary situation presents itself.

In a few days time, I will have to suffer the great misfortune of having no choice but to travel with Flybe. I will be taking one suitcase and one item of hand baggage. I will weigh both so as not to incur excess baggage costs.

If the scales at the check in register a weight which is higher, I’m already considering asking to see some recent official documentary evidence which certifies that the airport scales are accurate.

When I go to town to buy a case which will fit into the aircraft overhead lockers, I shall remember to take a tape measure with me because, as #58 pointed out, so keen are Flybe staff to rake in any extra revenue they can lay their hands on, that they are indeed now measuring all hand baggage.

The maximum hand baggage measurements – incidentally in metric instead of our cherished and still legal Imperial measurements – including wheels and handles are as follows: 50cm x 35cm x 23cm. There is also an arbitrary weight limit – again in metric – of 10kgs., so you need to weigh your hand baggage as well, before you head for the airport.

So be warned, if you fly with Flybe and are as much as 1cm or 1grm in excess of any of the maximum dimensions and weights arbitrarily imposed by Flybe solely to maximise its profit, you will pay through the nose for your oversight and impudence.

When I travel, having very carefully measured and weighed my two items of luggage, I fully expect to fall foul of some exciting new, ‘we’ve never tried this dodge before, slight of hand, goal post moving’ scam, perpretated by this odious company with the sole intention of diddling me out of even more of my hard-earned.

What a shame that the whole of the Island population cannot make a stand and collectively refuse to use this avaricious airline – even for just one month would do the trick. Then the dog would be wagging the tail for a change.

Sadly Flybe knows, as I do, that this is not about to happen any time soon, more’s the pity. But one can always live in hope.

There may be people who still wouldn’t come because accommodation is expensive, but on the other hand there are some that would be able to come for a a good few long weekends a year to visit family/friends, who don’t do so just now because the flight prices don’t justify a long weekend. Flybe run one of the most punctual airlines to serve Jersey
They DO NOT WANT people turning up at the airport with extra baggage (HENSE THE EXORBITANT CHARGES),it causes disruption at check in (have you ever been behind one of these idiots who I can only think have refused to read the terms and conditions they have said they have read as part of the booking procedure, and then keep everybody waiting while they put on the moron impression when told how much their stupidity will cost them). Pre-warned of how many bags they are carrying means Flybe can prepare baggage handling to suit at a saving in cost.
Up to 2 hours before check in one can add extra baggage at the on line price by internet or telephone, why turn up at the airport and expect the rules to change just for you.
If you use Flybe generous rewards4all it’s only an extra 3 points to upgrade to economy plus where one is allowed 40kg free of charge, complementary drinks and snacks and entrance to VIP lounges .
I fly to Gatwick regularly, at least 20 times a year? And have always found the staff polite and helpful. On the few occasions I have found myself 1 to 2 kilos over on the return due to having to guesstimate the weight. Flybe have NEVER charged me excess baggage, in fact only once has this even been mentioned by the check in staff.
I have arrived late for a flight twice. On the first time I was checked in for the next flight free of charge and the second I was charged £25 for a booking change, which I though very fair as their terms and conditions say no refunds and they would have been in their rights to charge the full price of the ticket.
If you book to Gatwick 2 to 3 months in advance you can often book a flight for £12 per leg add £9.99 for a bag, pay by electron at no extra charge and it costs £43.98 for a return journey.
One is charged Tax £47, can’t blame Flybe for that.
Compare £21.99 Jersey to Gatwick to the price of a taxi from Town to the Airport £24 you can reduce the former to £12, try and get a reduction in the taxi fare because you only have hand baggage, good luck.
If people want to Pay through the nose for their flights all they have to do is ignore the terms and conditions, me, I will carry on using the cheap, polite and punctual Flybe service, and long may I be able to do so.

Then there were the slightly less comfortable flights in C130s, Andovers, Pumas and Wessex. The RAF are closely followed in quality by Jersey Airlines / British United / BUIA / B.I.A. and even British Airways.

So we put the big case on the floor and gradually took stuff out, into the hand luggage bag, until the big case was 19.7 kg (we overshot). Exactly how much more fuel efficient was the old plane then, by having a lighter big case and a heavier little case? Big fat round zero I would think. Took time at the check in desk mind. Seeing as this has turned in to a general discussion about Flybe may I offer the following little story. In early June 3 members of my family were returning to Jersey from Doncaster and having seen on the internet that Jersey was completely closed by fog I went in to the airport with them to see if there was any news on what time they might travel. We were assured that the flight was on time(which we knew was impossible!)I explained how the flight could not possibly be on time and so a lady went off to double-check.Yes,she assured us, no problems whatsover.I then explained again that this was impossible as Jersey airport was closed by fog to which another member of staff chipped in that Flybe planes could fly through fog-no problem!Guess what-three hours later I returned to the airport(long drive)and picked them all up again! They were given a scrap of paper with a phone number on (which was by this time closed)There was no other flight to Jerey until 5 days later so they all had to travel to London and return home from there.Whilst the weather is clearly out of their control a little bit of customer service, such as having correct and up to date information, would have been nice. Also many travellers can become very distressed and panicky when thing go wrong and there is no help/advice available. My party were obviously annoyed but had transport and accomodation to return to but there were elderly and others who were left unaided.Sign of the times I suppose.

Firstly the Nurse was not “hit with a £700 charge”, she, as was her right refused the offer and took an alternative, her choice. The only story here is she was foolish enough to turn up at the airport and expect special treatment.

Go on the internet and compare Flybe and BA in 2 months time, Flybe is consistently cheaper! “Especially” if you decide to take the free 10KG hand-baggage and not pay for hold-baggage, a choice not offered by BA.
I fly to Turkey 4 times a year and as I have a fully stocked house there do not need to take baggage. I save loads of money from not booking baggage on the Flybe to Gatwick and the Charter to Turkey this not only means I am better off financially, my carbon footprint is considerably smaller.
The rip off is the airlines that give an all inclusive price and offer no reductions for the services you do not require (hold baggage, food etc). You are being charged for things you are not receiving.

“What is even sadder, our Government let them”

Look at Flybe punctuality, consistently one of the best serving Jersey.
Again the £1 per minute help line is for those that are too lazy to send an email for help. Try it; every time I have sent one I have received a reply in less than half a day, at no charge.

Flybe offer a service that is polite, punctual and cheap, you only have to pay for the bits you want.
They have a fast, modern and comfortable fleet with plenty of leg room (I am 6ft 2”).They have a schedule that is second to none as far as Jersey is concerned. Their terms and conditions are clearly printed in easy to understand language .To maintain this sort of service their customers MUST keep to the terms and conditions.

And you want to get rid of them?
What more do you want from an airline?

    Mike me old mucker.
Its people like you who cause the problem(especially as you had space / weight in your hand baggage)who turn up with a bag over 23KG (read the terms and conditions of any airline). For the sake of the baggage handlers H&S 23KG is the heaviest allowed, (not too sure about outer Mongolian airways).

They are clearly made at the outset when you book a flight. I am not certain, however I can’t imagine that any carrier doesn’t impose a penalty for excess luggage.

PJG # 102. I flew with the Army Air Corps and Royal Navy in Helicopters in Ulster; now they really could make their ‘choppers’ do things they weren’t designed to do. I was getting back into a Westland Scout after being an Eagle patrol, when the NCO pilot took off with me just standing on the skid – a colleague had to pull me into the cabin otherwise I’d have fallen out at about 15 to 20 feet.

In the meantime a R.N. Wessex took off into a line of trees with interesting results. Nevertheless those mad Matelot pilots were excellent guys and would fly in the most horrible conditions – happy days.

My only connection with Flybe is as a satisfied customer.
A bag over 23kgs requires special handling; it’s a two man lift. No airline wants that sort of waste of manpower so they price it to be unattractive, a normal business practice.
As has been said here many times if you don’t want to pay for being a moron read and adhere to the terms and conditions don’t be one.

I bet that queue got really long with you bickering with the check in staff because “YOU” had ignored(or are you a moron)the T&Cs and expected special treatment, were your ears burning?

“I fly to Turkey 4 times a year and as I have a fully stocked house there do not need to take baggage. I save loads of money from not booking baggage on the Flybe to Gatwick and the Charter to Turkey this not only means I am better off financially, my carbon footprint is considerably smaller.”

    Well done you…….

However, the vast majority of flying passengers DO require luggage because they tend to fly away for a holiday and often do not own houses where they are going!

If 23 kg is the heaviest a passenger can have for H & S reasons then why are we allowed to pay excess…..who lifts and shifts these heavier bags? Do they contract a bigger, stronger baggage handler especially!!??

I do wonder if you make things up as you go along just to wind people up :-0

I am SORRY @84 BeAr,,,, IF i UPSET you WITH my POOR ability TO argue MY point WELL!!!!!!!! i WILL try TO be MORE concise IN future, YOUR opinion IS of THE utmost IMPORTANCE to ME!!!!!!!!

@106 if YOU won’t READ the T&C’s, then HOW can YOU whinge????? WeIrD!?!?!? Explain what you think should happen at checkin? Should Flybe and all other airlines just let passengers turn up with any quantity of luggage they feel like? If they did, don’t you think some people would abuse the system and take enough luggage to stock a shop! There has to be a limit and they have to charge if you go over that limit. If its free than people will turn up with whatever amount of luggage they want to, its common sense isn’t it?

Seriously, if you all hate Flybe so much, than why fly with them? There are other airlines out of Jersey you know!

And before anyone whinges “Yeah but Flybe have the monopoly on routes” or “Flybe are the only one’s that fly to XXXX” here’s an idea, take an airline to another city/destination, then some over land travel (train/bus etc) to your destination. Sure it will cost you more but at least you won’t be flying with those Devil worshippers Flybe……. Oh hang on a minute, i’m willing to bet a years worth of Flybe loyalty points that not one single whinger on this board will do that due to the fact that none of you want to spend a penny more than you have to, even if you do have to go with those orphanage arsonists Flybe. Grow some principles you bunch of whingers and stand up for your beliefs, even if it does cost you a bit more… What a load of skin-flints!!!

23kg is the maximum any ONE bag can be for H&S of baggage handlers.

If ONE of your bags is over 23kgs, you will have to unpack something from it and put it into another bag/buy another bag or even put it into a plastic bag and check that in! You will than pay the excess baggage on that…. OK….. GOT IT!?!?!

Electron card not available via CI banks, I don’t know anybody who has got one.

Your bargain ‘£12 flight’ was, of course, total BS. I wanted the £23.99 one way flight as advertised – this is what I got:
    Mon 01 Nov 2010 Depart 14:50 Arrive 15:45
Jersey ‭(JER)‬ to London Gatwick ‭(LGW)‬
    Fare 21.35 GBP
    Taxes and Charges 13.64 GBP
    Transaction Fee GBP
    Credit Card Supplement 5 GBP
    Total so far GBP 39.99

Lies, damned lies and Flybe ads!

Thats why terms and conditions are written in small print usually. They discourage people from reading them. I bet I am not alone here by not reading them, just being honest! We have to rely on honesty of companies in this world- we really couldn’t read T and Cs of everything in life. You would never get anything done! Flybe are just taking the mick here, the charges are ridiculous. I never fly with them and don’t intend to now. All our holidays are on a boat, about the same price in the end, hardly any security checks and take as much as you want! Not that Condor is perfect either!

Flybe state that the maximum a single bag can weigh is 30 kg (industry standard is 32kg), as long as you’ve paid for this then you’ll not need to redistribute to other bags.

I disagree that Flybe’s terms and charges are clearly stated. Has anybody yet managed to book a ‘£23.99 Flight to UK’ that Flybe are advertising on their website? I really do not think it is possible – in which case why doesn’t somebody stop them from producing misleading advertisements?

If all their charges are clearly spelled out why were we all so shocked by the £730 Flybe demanded? Try it. Once you find it tucked away in the small print, it needs to be worked out with a calculator which took me a good few minutes. All this ‘£3 per kilo’ stuff looks very innocuous until you actually do all the additions and multiplications. Also, what about a bit of give and take? Flybe frequently cancels or changes flights it has sold us in good faith because ‘stuff happens’. What happens when we run into problems though? Out comes the big stick, just like when they stuffed me for hundreds of pounds extra for switching to a later flight when my connecting flight was late. OK, not Flybe’s fault but not mine either so why should they exploit the situation and charge as much as possible? The seats would have flown out empty if I hadn’t absolutely needed to get home that night.

    This really is getting tiresome.
If you miss your connection claim on your insurance.

WHAT! You travel without insurance, you expect Flybe to pick up the pieces you have dropped.

For the trip mentioned above, the nice people at Flybe will sell you insurance for £4.99.

Don’t forget to read the T&CS though to see if you are covered for missed connections.

OK just to keep you quiet I will explain how to book a Flight to UK for £23.99

First though you will need to direct me to the current web page where this offer is to be found, I have searched the site I can find no such offer.

Or is this just another of your short on facts recollections. Its been quite a few months since Flybe offered £10 a leg (I bagged a few of them last year)
Perhaps you are right when you say “I still maintain do not exist” The adverts not the flights.

Still the one I directed you to at £25.64 wasn’t bad was it. And it’s current

I really have tried to go along with you and have made efforts to answer your questions (maybe not to your liking, but I have made the effort)
This is the 4th time I have asked this, can you better it.
In fact can you answer any of my questions?

Please, please, please stop embarrasing yourselves on forums such as these. I know how important a lifeline air travel is to the island, but don’t complain that you are being dealt an unfair hand.
In the grand scheme of things its not that bad. Being stuck half a mile underground for the next 3 months because your nearest escape tunnel got cut off by rubble is unfair. Losing a loved one to an IED in the middle east is unfair. Being disfigured or contracting cancer through a nuclear power plant accident is unfair.
These newsworthy incidents were beyond the vistims’ control. Excess baggage isn’t. The minor inconvenienve of paying too much for baggage can be avoided by taking time with your booking online or even by using Jersey Post to deliver your baggage at a fraction of the cost.
Its never nice thinking that you’re being ripped off, but rest assured, this happens not only across the country, but across the world!
Don’t be quick to blame Flybe and demand it leaves the island. Flybe has had its moments, but they have at least stuck by the island and maintained routes that may have been lost as other airlines have dropped them.

You guys are in a lucky position to live on a lovely, safe island. Please appreciate what you have.

You are quite right, i stand corrected, the maximum weight any one bag can be is 30kgs.

However, I note that you can at least read the T&C’s, so you really have no reason to whinge about Flybe’s excess charges.

I see that none of the moaners on here have pointed out that Flybe are the cheapest uk based airline when it comes to doubling your baggage allowance, in advance of course.
    http://www.flybe.com/flightInfo/baggage_policy_changes.htm

But i’m sure you will all claim it is just more Flybe lies, damn them, they truely are the Devils handmaidens!

…….Gotta say, this really is the most entertaining board on insight I’ve seen in ages. Absolutely hysterical, goes to show how angry the average Jersey resident gets if they think someone is getting something they don’t deserve (in their opinion)……. Of course, if it was THEM getting it… Well…. That would be a different matter wouldn’t it!

Ha, never thought there could be so many green-eyed malcontents on an island 9 by 5!

PJG of Flybe, if this was a fight, the referee would stop it to save you further embarrassment. But I have pity, it is about a hundred to one posts against you.

One final chance for you to show you have at least one iota of common sense. I, and I am sure many “have to use Flybe-ites”, carefully weigh me bag before leaving home. My preferred method is to weigh myself (it’s a big number) and then pick up the case to make sure it is not over 20Kg to save fuel and, apparently, the backs of baggage handlers. And I really wouldn’t want to keep a queue of PJG’s waiting.

But pray, old thing, how does I do that for the return journey? Does I take me scales with me? If by taking the scales with me my case then weighs more than 20Kg, am I doing a good thing or a bad thing? You work for Flybe Customer Relations – please advise.

I have to agree with you here. Jersey is a beautiful place, and we are VERY lucky to be living here.

And if Flybe do go, how on earth are we going to get to Southampton, anyone? Because BA took that route off long ago. Flying to London then traveling there by train would be far more expensive than a Flybe flight. It’s a very important link, especially with people traveling for hospital care, I don’t want to see it go!

I don’t know when people are booking their flights, but when I book them, I don’t see much of a difference between Flybe & BA at all! Ok, so Flybe might have their website layed out differently, but we all know about the hidden charges, so don’t get your hopes up until you get the final total. Dare I say it… sometimes, BA are MORE expensive than Flybe!!

I use flybe all the time to get to london from Jersey, and have never had a problem with them- they’ve always been on time, nice aircraft with comfortable seats and decent legroom, cabin staff always polite and friendly!! I do admit the price of the bag is extortionate, but if she’d checked the t’s and c’s then she could have avoided this cost. Much better than BA, who’s staff are so self important they wouldn’t go out of their way to help you, not to mention this striking business…

I am flying to Amsterdam today, on BA.
Best deal I could find for the times I require.
I have insurance, I have packed and weighed my bags (hold and hand), my passport is in date, I have double checked the booking is the one I want, my phone is charged, organised the credit card to be paid on time while I am away so as not to get penalty charges (I suppose you would blame Flybe for that too)I would ask you if there was anything else I should do to make sure the trip goes as planned, but from what you have been saying it doesn’t matter, someone else should pick up the tab if I c*ck up.
BTW. Post office UK consider Jersey UK and will supply an electron ordered on by post. Try it before you make a fool of yourself again.

I think we have established that you don’t live here and have no insight into the problems ordinary people have dealing with your slippery chums at Flybe. Since I have no intention of buying an extra debit card just to use it at an airline I loathe the ‘£23.99 flight’ does indeed total a minimum of £39.99. There is little point debating with somebody with scant regard for the truth. Goodbye, don’t hurry back.
