What to do when a parent takes it on him or herself to say all the wrong things, pitch-side?

Friday 20th August 2010, 3:00PM BST.

THE Jersey Football Combination junior section committee launched their latest development plan this month and sensible reading it makes, too.

So what follows is the bulk of that report plus some of chairman Jon Welsh’s pertinent remarks.
In my role as a sports reporter, I have been to more than one match where at least one spectator directed foul and abusive language at the referee.

It was directed towards the opposition in an under-18 game, to such an appalling extent that a group of mothers asked him to leave the club – to which he turned his wrath on them, using even more foul language and refusing to go.

I therefore wholeheartedly endorse the Junior League’s report with one proviso. What can you do when a parent takes it on him or herself to say all the wrong things, pitch-side, at a football club?
