I hope these Deputies aren’t too lonely in the political wilderness

WHAT splendid entertainment the JDA provide. Now that three out of their four Members of the States have decided that they no longer wish to obey the party whip, where does that leave Ted Vibert and his trusty sidekick, Deputy Geoff Southern?

Given the result of the recent Senatorial election, their decision to move all their policies away from the left of the political spectrum smacks of a deep cynicism.

Having so passionately propounded their policies in the past, how can anyone have any faith in any future policies they may support? I hope they are not too lonely in the political wilderness.

Fortunately, their activities give their former members a golden opportunity to show their integrity and their faith in the electorate. Deputies Pitman and Pitman, and the other one whose name escapes me, can prove to us, the cynical electorate, that they are deeply committed to their new beliefs.

As their new policies bear no relationship to the manifesto on which they stood for election, they can now resign and stand again on their new policies. This will prove that they are not in politics just for the remuneration and that they do not need the backing of the JDA to achieve electoral success.

Doubtless, if there is not a resounding silence on this topic, we will hear all the excuses as to why they should not do this.

The remaining portion of their term is too short; it would be letting down those who voted for them; it would be too much trouble for the parish; and it is their destiny to complete their term are among a few that spring to mind.

They have effectively disenfranchised all those who voted for their policies a couple of years ago.

As they cannot even run a very small party, if they are to be regarded as trustworthy Members of the States in the future, they have no choice but to resign.
