JERSEY’S miserable summer weather turned nasty on Sunday night as the Island was battered by heavy rain and gale force winds.

Following weeks of unsettled conditions, Islanders and tourists alike suffered another soaking yesterday as a ‘vigorous’ storm moved in from the south-west, battering the Island with force seven winds.

And Jersey Met Office forecaster Mark Le Cornu had further bad news for sun worshippers: ‘The way things are at the moment, I can’t see any prolonged spell of dry and sunny weather. If we were experiencing weather like this in the second week of September it wouldn’t be too unusual, but it is quite troubling that the weather is so unsettled so early on.’
