Senator bids to stop raid of ‘piggybank’

MINISTERIAL attempts to tap into Social Security funds to help them meet cuts targets must be resisted, says Senator Sarah Ferguson.
Under spending plans for 2011, almost £5m will be drawn out of the Health Insurance Fund – a fund built up through Social Security contributions – and given to the Health Department.
Senator Ferguson says that opening up the £77m Health Insurance Fund for the Health minister to use the fund as ‘a useful piggybank’ sets a dangerous precedent, and that no real case is being made in the Business Plan.
