TWO groups of young people will be travelling to London to represent Jersey at the visit of Pope Benedict XVI.

The first group will represent the Jersey Association of Catholic Youth (Jacy) at Westminster Cathedral on Saturday.

And one of their members, 16-year-old Christopher Anderson, has been chosen as the national representative for the voluntary organisation Youth St Vincent De Paul and will be inside the cathedral, just a few metres from the Pope.

Three Beaulieu students will also travel to London to attend a celebration of Catholic education at St Mary’s College, Twickenham. Their fellow students back home will get to witness the meeting via an online broadcast.

Beaulieu headmaster Chris Beirne said it was an exciting opportunity for his students.
‘The Pope’s message to us will be challenging and personal, and as a Catholic school inspired by the values of faith, it will add greatly to what we seek to achieve at Beaulieu,’ he said.

The group from Jacy, chaperoned by Mary Cahill, comprises Mairead Cahill (14), Connie Le Brocq (15), Grace Crowley (15), Bethan Andrew (15), Jonathon Pugsley (14), Emma Barrow (16) and Joe Richardson (18).

They will watch Saturday’s Mass on a big screen outside the cathedral and will greet the Holy Father along with 2,500 other young people as he leaves.

Attending from Beaulieu will be head girl Rebecca Murray (17), Hannah Chevalier (14), and Katie Walters (12)
