NURSERY children at Grouville School spent yesterday morning ‘training’ with Anthony Lewis, who is to walk the Standard Chartered Jersey Marathon 2010 for charity despite suffering a stroke.

The 29 children, including Anthony’s youngest son, Joe (3), held the training session on the school playing field as a way of demonstrating their support for his challenge.

After warming up, they ran round a course set up especially for the occasion. Each of them won a medal for their efforts.

Anthony, the JEP’s former assistant editor, suffered a massive stroke nearly three years ago following a freak football accident and is now raising money to help other stroke victims.

He will walk all 26 miles of the marathon over the course of a week, finishing on 3 October, the day of the marathon itself.
