THE Brewin Dolphin Channel Islands Hobie Cat Championships attracted the biggest turnout in its 20-year history last weekend.

A total of 34 Hobies battled it out in St Aubin’s Bay over two days, with the biggest field of 13 competing in the Hobie 16 race.

It was won by teenagers Laurence Carter (15) and Josh Potts (16), who are competing in Brightlingsea this weekend in the first of two youth multi-hull national youth squad qualifying events.

A closer race was seen between seven Hobie Tigers and one Wildcat in the first race in the event, organised by the Royal Channel Islands Yacht Club, and this was won by Darren Stower and Grant Hamilton.
