PLANS to wipe an extra £15m from States budgets by 2013 have been branded an ‘absolute disgrace’ by union leaders.

Nick Corbel, spokesman for the Unite union, has warned that his members are ‘livid’ at the announcement made by Senator Philip Ozouf this week and are ‘running out of options’.

Senator Ozouf officially confirmed the news in front of business leaders at Thursday’s Institute of Directors annual debate – a gross discourtesy to public sector workers, according to Mr Corbel.

Mr Corbel you seem to always forget us Unite members who are not employed in the public sector.
Is scoring points off Philip Ozouf more important?
    Seems so.

The fact they are still going to tax us an extra £35 million is the disgrace.

That is an £775 per person per year excluding children and the poorest. They can’t increase tax on the richest as they will just leave so the middle earners will be hit hardest again. If you earn between £20,000 and £60,000 you will be hit hardest.
Ans Nick Corbel wants you to pay more he wants you to pay an extra £1995 a year to ensure there are no cuts!

Get real Nick we have already had 20 means 20 and GST all on middle earners, we want cuts.

And don’t pretend the richest can pay more they will leave fast to Switzerland/IOM where it is already lower tax than Jersey!

What is, and has been an “absolute disgrace” for many years, is the attitude of the unions. For far too long have public-service employees been protected in a way that the private sector has not. And all because we have lily-livered politicians.

So Mr Corbel would have us borrow, would he, so that the public sector can continue to be subsidised at the expense of the rest of us.

A “gross discourtesy”???? Does he really think that the public sector is all that is important in Jersey?

Despite all, it’s a pity that there are some people who will never “get real”. I hope that, at long last, we will have a politician who will do what is necessary, what has been necessary for many years, and stand up to this
The union leader is doing no service at all to Jersey. I’m sure that his members do realise that but like so many turkeys they are not about to start voting for Xmas either.
