Members who ducked debating their own pay are practising a strange form of accountability

THERE’S a horrible, awful truth that you’re not meant to write about, allude to or mention in any way when you write about local politics.

It’s hard, it’s uncompromising, and politicians spend their entire careers trying not to think about it.

This is a serious cover-up on an Islandwide scale: you just don’t write about it, you don’t talk about it and you don’t even think about it – let alone reveal it to anyone.

And this is it: no one really gives a monkey’s about local politics.
