Hospital death: GMC begins doctor’s misconduct hearing

THE doctor who carried out a botched operation which led to the death of a staff nurse at the Hospital allegedly refused help from another experienced surgeon, a General Medical Council hearing was told this week.
Dr Dolores Moyano Ontiveros allegedly told obstetrician and gynaecologist Dr Khalid Ahmed, who arrived shortly after the procedure, that the patient, staff nurse Elizabeth Rourke, was recovering.
But within minutes of being taken to the recovery room, Mrs Rourke’s condition began to deteriorate ‘noticeably and rapidly’, the GMC heard on Monday at a hearing which will decide whether the Spanish doctor is fit to practise.
