The Island’s sportsmen and women can expect a colourful welcome from their hosts later today

THE Jersey team at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi can look forward to a unique welcoming ceremony as they settle into the Games village today.

Jersey team manager Paul Huddlestone explained what the athletes can look forward to. He said: ‘We will be welcomed to the village by the mayor and they will play our anthem and raise the Jersey flag.

The ceremony is likely to take about half an hour and we will be joining teams from the Isle of Man and Northern Ireland.

‘Martin Hebden (Jersey Commonwealth Games Association president) will then make a speech which they will respond to before we are treated to a cultural show from a local school.
