A WOMAN who has an interest in genealogy and likes reuniting people with lost of forgotten items has sent us a photograph believed to have been taken in Jersey in the late 1940s.
Gwen Martin (61), who lives near Heathrow Airport, says that she finds things in car boot sales, charity shops and even skips. In the case of the photo, she was given it by a Sussex book shop owner who found it in a book that he had bought years ago.
‘It’s of two women and a boy sitting on the bonnet of a car registration J 85576,’ she says in an email. ‘It has been suggested that it is in Jersey, about 1948-1950. I would like to return the photo to family members if any are found.’
Gwen says that reuniting items with people has become a hobby. ‘I have found owners of lots of old books and photos – one went to Australia,’ she said. ‘It’s my hobby – I think sometimes photos are discarded and then this is later regretted. It’s our past for our children’s future.’
