WHEN it comes to keeping it in the family Enid Quénault and her family have it down to a fine art.

Because for Mrs Quénault, who recently celebrated being a Methodist lay preacher for 50 years, it has become something of a family tradition to serve on the local Methodist circuit.

Her father, former St Ouen Deputy Arthur Quérée, was a preacher for more than 40 years, her son, Richard Quénault, regularly preaches locally and now her granddaughter, Joanna Spybey, is also training to be a Methodist preacher.

And at the heart of the family’s faith is Bethesda Methodist Church in St Peter, where they all worship regularly.

Mrs Quénault, who was a St Brelade Deputy for 12 years and then Constable of the parish for a further 12, was recently presented with a special certificate to mark her 50 years of service, but she hasn’t given up yet and will continue to preach as long as she feels able.
