Hugh Raymond wants to ensure that sport is not penalised in States' funding cuts

THE Jersey Sports Council is ready to thrust Island sport into the political spotlight.

Following a meeting of the Council last night it was agreed by members that they must ensure politicians are aware of how important sport is to the Island.

The newly-elected chairman of the Council, Hugh Raymond, believes the sporting fraternity to be the biggest group of people outside of the finance industry and ‘should be listened to’.

He wants the sporting community to form a united front to ensure States reductions to sporting facilities and funding are limited.
