JERSEY Commonwealth Games Association president Martin Hebden has stressed the importance of sending a team to the international event.

Although Island badminton players Elizabeth Cann and Mariana Agathangelou helped Team England to bronze medals in Delhi this month, the Jersey squad were unable to increase their tally which was last boosted by shooters Cliff and Colin Mallett in 1990.

However, the Island representatives at this year’s Games performed to a high standard, collected personal bests and absorbed a wealth of experience which easily justifies their presence at the event, said Hebden.
