States must act now on Odeon, says Senator

PLANNING must stop dragging its feet on the future of the disused Odeon building, says Senator Jim Perchard.
Although the Senator has withdrawn proposals to change the Planning and Building Law to enable the Environment Minister to ‘delist’ a protected building, he says that the future of the site must be resolved soon.
Senator Perchard’s proposal to change the Planning Law to enable the minister to remove a Site of Special Interest – or listed building – designation was down for debate at the States sitting next week, but has been pulled because, he says, he has been advised that the power already exists.

It seems a shame to knock down such a rare Art Deco building. Could it be converted to flats? Check out what has been done in Battersea, to in my view a less pretty building:

MAKE IT AN ARTS CENTRE! Auditoria, offices, central box office could be used by all venues & Tourism…but no.
They’ll stay sitting on their hands til the place falls down then grant permission for more flats. See Inn On The Park if you doubt me!

Why not into a venue for conferences, bands etc. with good pr,theres no reason it wouldnt work bands are a big thing on mainland surely that would return something back into the island.
