Surgeon speaks of horror of floods in his homeland

A PAKISTANI surgeon at the General Hospital says he was left traumatised after seeing at first hand the devastation wreaked by the floods in his home country that claimed 1,600 lives.
Breast surgeon Sarfraz Jamali arrived back in the Island from Pakistan after a two-week visit to help those whose homes and livelihoods have been destroyed.
During his visit Mr Jamali, who is originally from the Jafarabad district, heard stories about bodies, including those of small children, being plucked from the receding floodwaters so that they could be buried properly.
The father-of-three was so upset following his visit that he couldn’t talk about it until weeks afterwards. Only now has he felt able to describe what he witnessed.
