Breezing competition
Thursday 28th October 2010, 12:00PM BST.
MEMBERS of the Jersey Horse Driving Society turned back time over the weekend with a display of a traditional Jersey farming method.
The society’s annual breezing, or shallow ploughing competition, was held at Samarès Manor on Sunday after bad weather caused it to be postponed from the day before.
But the sun shone on the Sunday and the horses and their owners were out in force to plough and show off their brasses.
Vincent Obbard with his horse Sam won the Best Brass competition with John Vibert and his horse Ben in second.
In the breezing section the open class was won by Mr Vibert, who was assisted by David Gallichan, with Ben, and the novice class was won by Paul Le Mière, with Les Langlois assisting, and Isaac the horse.
Mr Vibert, who helped to organise the event – which also featured members of the Young Farmers Club with their tractors – said the day had been a big success.
