BEAULIEU School students took part in a 25-mile walk – ‘Tacq and Back’ – last Friday to raise money for charity.

A total of 135 Year 10 and 11 pupils walked from West Park to L’Etacq and back to raise money for the Nairobi Slum Schools Projects Trust.

The charity was set up in 1999 by Paul Bell when he visited the slums on holiday and was appalled by the conditions.

Beaulieu School science teacher John Horne said: ‘We walked from West Park in town, along Victoria Avenue and the Railway walk to Corbière, then across St Ouen’s Bay to L’Etacq.

‘The pupils all pledged a minimum of £15 to the Nairobi Slum Schools Projects Trust.’

He said that they have raised about £2,000 so far but they would not know the final total until after half-term.

The group left West Park at 8.30 am and the girls finished the walk between 3.30 pm and 6.30 pm.
