THREE high-profile Islanders put down big markers for future success over the weekend – Matt Banahan with the England rugby team, Serena Guthrie at netball, and Brett Pitman in scoring his first Championship goal for Bristol City.

Pitman came off the bench for Bristol to score the first goal in a 2-0 home success over Sven Goran Eriksson’s Leicester City, while, at Twickenham, Banahan was staking a claim to a place in the England team for the Six Nations and, in just under a year, their World Cup squad.

Guthrie won silver with England in the World Netball Series, going down to reigning champions New Zealand in yesterday’s 28-26 final.
