TWO lifeboats and a fishing vessel battled to keep a sinking boat afloat yesterday, after it ran into trouble a mile out at sea.

Don Thompson, head of the Jersey Fishermen’s Association, and his boat Sylvie’s Grace were eventually rescued by the Coastguard, which towed the vessel back to shore.

The fisherman radioed for help when his 7.5m boat started taking on water near the Hinguette buoy, just outside St Aubin’s Bay, on his return to Jersey.
