THE analogue age was well and truly consigned to the scrapheap at the weekend as record numbers of Islanders dumped their old televisions.

Transport and Technical Services staff estimated that 12 tons of old TVs – around 500 sets – were dumped at the Bellozanne recycling centre over the weekend. They will now be shipped to the UK to be dismantled and recycled.

Well, I guess the recession isn’t hitting everyone in Jersey. Those sets could have been made to work with a £20 adaptor. What a waste.

I think people have been lead to believe they had to get rid of their tv sets unless they were new or recent new fangled set for the change over to work… i have a tv that is 14years old, massive and ugly.. but it still works! and with the addition of a freeview box or the digi box it works. Dont know why this wasnt made clearer to people , especially the elderly who, a lot might i add, have gone out and bought new tvs when there was no need. Look at the lot sent to the dump! most of those i bet work!!! hey ho… waste waste.
