Postal deliveries could be reduced to five days a week

Postal deliveries could be reduced to five days a week

POSTAL deliveries could be scaled back from six days a week to five, the Economic Development Minister has said.

Senator Alan MacLean said the decision would have to be made by Jersey’s competition watchdog but could be in place by next year under the current postal licence agreement.

He was speaking after the results of an Island-wide consultation were released earlier this week which found that more than 50 per cent of respondents wanted to keep the sub post office network, although they accepted it might end up in parish halls and shops rather than a stand alone facility.

Up to 39 per cent of the 480 Green Paper respondents had said that they would want three-day-a-week deliveries as opposed to five days a fortnight, but Senator Maclean said a ‘dramatic change wasn’t needed at this stage’.

I wouldn’t care if it was down to 1 day a week, I can wait for my bills!

Speaking of postal service, I had call to use the post office the other day, first time since the new size related rates were introduced. An A4 envelope was 75P previously the normal Jersey stamp for 30 odd pence would have done. Not that you can get a “normal” stamp either, we now have 2 types, slow and dog slow.

So less service costs more money, sack the lot of em for me and use e mail which BTW if the states are supposed to be going green should be standard for all communications except for those without e mail ( currently 4 people living in St. Ouen ) mind you they didn’t know there was a tunnel along Route Du Fort either.

Wow! GREAT NEWS, a postman is actually going to deliver to me 5 days a week…rather than just the 3 days at the moment!

5 days a week would be fine with me, so long as the cutback in services is used to halt any further price increases.

In fact, I think I might already be on 3 day a week (or less) deliveries judging by the way my post seems to turn up in batches!

So, once again we have to pay more for a reduction in service. Comical but unfunny service from Jersey Post.

Does That Mean The Poor Directors Will Have To Take A Pay Cut Like The Posties !!! Rock On Tommy

Five days a week instead of six – I could live with that. No problem. Any less – absolutely not!

Yes, and how do they propose to fund increasing the number of post days to five times a week?

Here’s an other ‘bright spark’. What has this Economic Development Minister actually achieved.
Apart from being Ozouf’s side kick and another wealthy hanger on…..nothing !!
Our postman is given a time in which to deliver his round, regardless of quantity or weather, while the directors are busy plotting their next fat pay bonuses and hindered by politicians and regulators who just sit on their backsides and waffle (you know the types who have never done a days work…ever)

Makes sense. Could even do four days a week no troubles to private households.

#1 & #8 I’m so with you there. Yesterday we received letters (all in basic DL envelopes) from 4 different companies based in St Helier, the franking dates spanned 4 days!

Two days a week would be fine for post, Tuesday and Thursday.
I get a few letters from the bank per month, a few bills most of which are just paper records of things that are paid by direct debit anyway.
    Everything important comes by email.
Post could come in by mail boat instead of by air just like in the old days, that would save money.
Even better we could move back to the pre Victorian postal system.
No deliveries, post to be collected from your local post office on payment of a fee! :-)

#13 Pip, whose side are you on here, you can’t go giving them ideas like that!

Unfortunately not everything important comes by email as is evident from the number of parcels that disappear. Funny how it’s never the parcels with books I’ve bought for educational purposes.

    Hi Leah,

Have a look at Johnathan Swift’s ‘A Modest Proposal’.
A decent read and a book I have always enjoyed.

Recommended reading for all those on here who don’t yet recognise satire, perhaps?

    Is RT the new Swift?
