JERSEY could miss out on athletics medals at next year’s NatWest Island Games in the Isle of Wight as the dates of the competition clash with three other events.
The Games take place from 25 June to 1 July, conflicting with the national under-23 and U20 Atheletics Championships on 25-26 June and the English Schools Championships on 1-2 July.
Athletics coach Andrew Winnie said that around eight athletes would be affected by the fixtures ‘crush’. As a result some will be forced to miss the start or finish of the Games if they are to feature in both.
The situation has occurred in the build up to the 2012 Olympics because work is being done to upgrade tracks for countries to use them as training facilities ahead of the London event.
