Another year of JCRA price controls
Saturday 27th November 2010, 3:01PM GMT.
JERSEY Post faces another year of having its prices controlled by the Island’s competition regulator.
The States-owned utility is also facing another competitor in the fulfilment market in the shape of global delivery giant TNT.
The Jersey Competition Regulatory Authority announced this week that it was proposing to extend Jersey Post’s price control for another year. The proposal has been put out to consultation and the period for comment ends on 23December.
Jersey Post managing director Ian Carr said that market pressures were already dictating the levels to which prices can be raised. As a result, he questioned
the effectiveness of price control.

KIT 4 CLUBS
Win a share of £10,000
2012 is the year of the London Olympics and to celebrate this great event the Jersey Evening Post, in association with sponsors Ogier is giving all sporting clubs a chance to win a share of £10,000.

Looking forward to the JCRA imposing price controls on Condor, more of a monopoly than Jersey Post.

Makes me wonder why there was so much uproar about Hub Europe and Citipost – two little minnows in the mail world..and no one seems to say anything about TNT who have the power to wipe out Jersey Post, Hub and Citipost in no time. TNT handle over 14 million items a year……that’s all of the postal revenue going out of Jersey…. shouldn’t be allowed…..

And the monopolies of the jersey dairy and jersey bakers

Lets hope we can get an improved service which at present is awful .36pence and three days to deliver a simple surface letter within the island .Not a very good reflection on Jersey Post!

Strange how no one generally complains about Jersey Post. In fact every I speak to seems to be in agreement that they provide a good service. Yet the JCRA seem to have it in for them at the moment.
Why don’t the JCRA grow a set and look at the matters that really matter to locals, such as ….
Ferries – a complete and utter rip off. Poor service, prices dictated to us and an unfair penalising of UK bound local passengers.
Local shops – The addition of UK VAT on top of a local premium. This is dismissed as “shipping charges”.
Bread and milk – highest prices apply for a staple requirement.
Overall food – yes it’s a rip off, yet nothing is ever done about it.
Petrol – the enormous local retailer mark up.
Flights out of the airport.
Conflicts of interest within the States of Jersey government and local business.
Here you are JCRA, a few things to keep you going in 2011.

5. bang on the money. I don’t see the JCRA every getting to grips with what really matters over here.
As far as I am concerned faffing around with telcos and handicapping postal seem to be their only remits at the moment.
Who is going to deliver the post when Jersey Post doesn’t exist anymore due to having the life blood sucked out of them by companies siphoning off their most profitable business?
If I had my way I would beef up the JCRA to bite where it matters, or if this wasn’t possible, I would shut it down and use the money to better effect elsewhere.
