LOCAL artists want the opportunity to get involved in more public art projects.
That was the feedback at this year’s Council for Culture conference, held by the Education department at Hautlieu to raise the profile of cultural issues.

It was the third year that the conference has been held and three guest speakers from the UK gave presentations about different aspects of culture.

Several local artists turned up to the conference and called for a more open and transparent process when it came to public art projects such as the Percentage for Art programme.

Individual artists are usually approached to commission sculptures or other public artwork. Some of the artists are local, while others are from outside the Island.

It’s not just artists, why is it that school photography is contracted out to UK companies, when there are many local businesses that can supply the same service and match on cost.

Think Local, Buy Local doesn’t apply to State’s departments !

So why does the Heritage Trust employ non-Jersey Artists? Not that good either, in my opinion.

Totally agree with Jon.. I went along to the exhibit at Liberty Wharf and we are fortunate enough to have some really talented people over here who are not given half the recognition they truly deserve..I was very impressed I think it is about time our politicians had a bit more of an open mind and world vision instead of just supporting outside talent.. Jersey has some very intelligent and gifted people who are being suffocated by the ignorant opinion of culture and no I don’t mean countries or language!! lol
