Green light for Les Ormes’ ‘mini Center Parcs’ plans
Monday 29th November 2010, 2:56PM GMT.
PLANS to transform Les Ormes into a ‘mini Center Parcs’ with 22 golf apartments and six self-catering chalets have been approved in principle.
The £8 million project involves building 12 staff accommodation units and a new green-keepers’ shed at the centre in St Brelade.
On Friday Environment Minister Freddie Cohen said that he was ‘minded to approve’ the outline planning application but said that there was some detail still to be sorted out.
No one objected to the plans at the Ministerial meeting but a planning officer did raise concerns about part of the proposal, which was to release three of the staff accommodation units at Les Ormes Farm into the A-H housing market.

What exactly is “Centre Parcs” like about these plans?
Everything will still be outdoors, reliant on the Jersey weather – which as we all know hovers somewhere between unpredicatble and poor at the best of times.
Also they are trying desperately to get this thing through on the charity angle and the presumption of increased tourism – “150 bedrooms equates to 5,000 visitors. There is a real economic gain” Yeah sure – you have to fill those bedrooms first!!
