Small nations football in Gilbraltar next year?
Tuesday 30th November 2010, 2:59PM GMT.
GIBRALTAR next November is the provisional date for an inaugural small nations football tournament involving Guernsey and Jersey.
Regardless of Guernsey’s likely commitment to a UK league from next season the Sarnians have indicated they want to play in the half-week event which could feature at least four sides and, possibly, as many as six.
Guernsey’s County secretary Mike Kinder joined representatives from Jersey, the Isle of Man and Gibraltar at a meeting with FA official Mike Appleby at a Gatwick hotel last Friday.
It was there that they drafted competition rules and regulations and a follow-up meeting in Gibraltar will be staged early in 2011 to finalise details.
Kinder said he had gone to London to push for a joint bid to stage the inaugural tournament with Jersey.
