Less hot air in States Chamber?

Monday 20th December 2010, 2:56PM GMT.

STATES Members seemed to be slightly more efficient at debating this year – they spent 50 fewer hours in the Chamber than in 2009.

The figures outlining how they used their time in all States sittings for 2010 shows that Members met for a total of just under 294 hours, compared to 351 in 2009.

It meant that Members sat for 50 days, shaving ten days off their 2009 figure of 60.

Shame that members failed to shave the budget by the equivalent 16.666%; but we live in hope, don’t we?

If they had taken away the dreary and cumbersome Geoff Southern speeches and the childish antics of Montfort Tadier then the sittings would have been even shorter. Hopefully we will see some dead wood cut out of the States next October.

Are we really paying these people over £100 per hour, to be totally ineffective in running Jersey and I know they obviously work outside of the Chambers, but what worker these days does 9-5, an absolute disgrace !!!

yes moggit , i know they do work out side the chamber, i think a good price is £25.00 per hour, most of us would like to be on this rate .
with no doubt they would all say they do 40 hours a week plus .
so at £25.00 per hour , what happened to the other £75.00?
i am sure some others , will tell us what hours they work , 9to5 or 8 to 5 as a example ( this will only apply to many of us mere mortals or modern day wage slaves)

I can truly say I’m over the moon for them.
The States members are now actually more efficient at doing a bad job. Now if they could get it down to zero hours ballsing things up and a few constructive hours actually digging us out of the sorry mess they have landed us in then I will start believing in Santa again! Good work waffling chaps!
