People are spending just for the sake of it
Tuesday 21st December 2010, 3:00PM GMT.
From Richard Cole.
WITH reference to the article (JEP, 18 December) that new signs for parks could cost up to £2,000 each, is it any wonder that this island is in such a state financially when we have people even considering such outrageous suggestions to buy them?
The alternative for a cheaper version would be £150 to £200 says the, I assume, proposer but these are high quality.
Mr Crowcroft rightly points out that it is not right to spend thousands of pounds of public money on signs. I have been racking my brains to try and remember if I have ever agreed on anything our patron saint of bicycles has said in the past but I can’t.
But, fair play, this time I am grateful we have someone in charge who will put a stop to this nonsense.
These are signs, for God’s sake, not iconic trophies from Senator Cohen’s department. We do not need to send away for a specialist to design them. Why not get the boys up at Highlands carpentry shop to make them?
Is there any hope for this island when we have people hell bent on spending for the sake of it?
My blood pressure tablets are running out fast, so give me a break.

KIT 4 CLUBS
Win a share of £10,000
2012 is the year of the London Olympics and to celebrate this great event the Jersey Evening Post, in association with sponsors Ogier is giving all sporting clubs a chance to win a share of £10,000.
I recall the thousands of pounds Graham Power spent on a new Police HQ sign soon after he first arrived. If only people had listened to the alarm bells back then.

Unfortunately Crowcroft will turn St Helier into a business graveyard with his lunatic one way system. perhaps he wants the whole Island on bikes.
Trade will drop in town and people will blame the recession but it will be people sick of sitting in traffic queues with no where to park.

Don’t get so nervous over such small cock-ups Jersey has plenty more serious 2010 classics
The list for 2010 is endless but a few rather special numbers are:-
Air traffic controllers were trained using the wrong computer software – Money lost – hundreds of thousands
Housing made a few small errors – Money lost – Millions of pounds
The incinerator deal – Money lost – Millions of pounds
0 10 was set-up and if as has been suggested it is illegal – Money lost – Millions
Classic Decisions
The chief minister said it wouldn’t be prudent to keep notes from Political meetings
The Hospital pool was closed – YES CLOSED!!!
I have to stop now as it’s getting depressing
