Battle anniversary marked by trek to the Royal Square the
Thursday 23rd December 2010, 2:56PM GMT.
ISLANDERS are being invited to follow in the footsteps of the militia forces who marched to St Helier to fight in the Battle of Jersey to mark its 230th anniversary next month.
The long trek from St Ouen’s Church to the Royal Square follows the path taken by one of the militia groups who fought the French on 6 January 1781.
Earlier this year the walk had to be cancelled because of snow, but organisers hope it will go ahead next month.
But walkers have been warned about the early 9 am start time for the event on Saturday 8 January, which begins at St Ouen’s Church and passes St Lawrence’s Church at 10.45 am before arriving in the Royal Square at about 12.15 pm.

There is nothing wrong with the island or it’s inhabitant’s ! The only problem is the governance of our Island for the last decade that were told by hundreds of us in the Royal Square over 7 years ago to contol spending ! (The 7 Angry Men) And did they listen ? No !!!!!!! They let spending spiral out of control resulting in GST, 20 means 20 , Zero ten ! Mass un-emoloyment etc. and still worse to come !!!!!!!

Present company excepted, of course, Adrian!

Get a grip people. Is there no story that can run without someone or something getting slated.
FWIW I think this is a great idea. Nice to see some regard for the history of the island.
Only yesterday I was looking at the back of a Jersey 10 pound note and trying to imagine what the scene would be like in the Royal Square if we were at war today. It would be closer resemble the scene set in IC’s post, than the effort put in 230 years ago.

Tobias (1) If only the French had won,
Tobias you do yourself a disservice. I believe the critical year was not 1781, but 1971, when we get rid of the usury legislation and paved the way for the finance industry.
Both the French and English would be happy to see our tax avoidance industry closed.
