THE rain and snow stayed away for the last few nights of Christmas shopping but the shoppers certainly didn’t.
Chamber of Commerce president Ray Shead says that St Helier’s retailers have enjoyed a hectic finish to the year, with shoppers hitting the town hard to grab last-minute gifts for friends and family.
‘Things have been picking up, and the main reason seems to be that it has not rained or snowed since the weekend,’ said Mr Shead.
‘The feedback that I am getting from members – and from what I have seen, having been sent on shopping expeditions – is that town has been pretty busy.’

Unfortunately a lot of gifts ordered online were caught up in the UK due to the cold weather.
Don’t count you chickens just yet Jersey Chamber of Commerce. The lack of bargains on our high street will drive more people online in the new year.

I tried to buy some trousers for work but they did not have my size (W36 / Leg 33 before you all think I am a fat blob ) so I will have to shop online !

Warren do you ever wonder, as I do, why that size is always sold out?
When will the trouser shops realise that they need to order less of the unsold sizes and more of the popular ones?

I get the impression that the Chamber of Commerce are desperate to create a rosy picture
They keep drip feeding us good news to keep confidence levels in our economy high
Secretly however, they know Jersey’s in huge trouble

4# true.
If you are average size, they always run short of the goods, and are left with too big or too small sizes so I buy when away, better choice, better shops and cheaper.
5# Yeah I agree.I was in town the last 2 days and believe me I never seen no crowds of people,in fact I wondered where every-was.
You can fool some of the people and all that springs to mind.
