Time for an inquiry

Friday 24th December 2010, 3:00PM GMT.

From K de la Haye
I READ your letters column regarding the apparently well-informed disclosures therein about the recent trials and tribulations of the Harbours department and States tug the Duke of Normandie.

If the information published in recent correspondence is correct, the silence emanating from those with responsibility is deafening.

The answer provided to a question in the States Chamber on this subject greatly differs from the information supplied by your correspondent. His revelations indicate that a catalogue of profligate spending, gross mismanagement and extreme incompetence exists in this area at the Harbours department.

In such austere times members of the public are entitled to demand a full and detailed explanation of the ‘tug boat saga’. Any prevarication or spin is unacceptable.

It’s time for intervention by the Auditor General, followed by a proper public inquiry. The rest of our politicians, those not involved with the Harbours department, can remain seated and continue to sit on their hands.
