Flu jab reminder for those in poor health

ISLANDERS with health problems or pregnant women are being reminded to get their flu jabs if they have not already done so.

People in these groups face a higher risk of serious complications if they become infected with flu, Health has warned.

The vaccine, which costs £10 to have but some doctor’s charge for the visit as well, protects you against swine flu.

People at high risk include those with chronic heart, lung, liver and kidney or neurological disease, asthma, diabetes or impaired immunity and pregnant women.

Jersey’s acting Medical Officer of Health Dr Susan Turnbull is urging everyone in these high risk groups to have the vaccine.

I fall into the high risk group but like many I am put off getting the jab from my GP because of the high cost.

I will wait until I have to see my doctor for some other condition and get the jab at that time. I know I’m taking a rsik but I don’t have £40 to spend on a 10 minute visit to the doctor.
I recently had a tooth removed costing £120, the dentist wanted £800 for an hour’s work to save the tooth, I couldn’t afford the extraction cost much less the £800.

People are putting their health at risk because it’s too expensive to see medical professionals in Jersey, I am a local person in full time employment, I don’t drink or smoke or fritter my money away.

For the last 2 winters I have refused all flu injections, and for the last 2 winters have not had to have several courses of antibiotics and steroids just to get through. I am a high risk patient but have found a cheap remedy which has helped me no-end, much to my Doctors amazement.
I take Healthy Origins Vitamin D3 5,000IU softgels in the summer, and double them in the winter to 10,000IU about £16 for a years supply from BigVits.co.uk.
Scientists have only just realised that their recommended doses have been woefully below what is needed, 85% of the population are deficient. and this deficiency underlies most of the serious illnesses in the world today.

I too am a high risk patient, but being in the OAP bracket just cannot afford the doctor’s visit or the cost of the flu jab.

So, Dr Turnbull, remind away, but if we ain’t got the money we aint got the money!

I paid £7 for the doctors visit through Lister Surgery. The vaccine was free. Work normally pay for this but I was told this year they wouldnt…only to find out a week later they were. Still not too bad if you do not have to pay for a full appointment

If its only £10 (minus GST) for the jab then why not open the Hospital to the OAP & at risk and just charge £10 and waiver the Doctors fee so those people can get the Jab.

If its as serious as they say it is and then someone dies on Dr Turnbulls watch then she is just as much to blame for not doing her duty of caring for the sick. A Doctors oath.

Sorry to say this but sounds like you’ve been suckered by the marketing and are benefiting from the placebo effect, possibly from the feel good factor vitamin D can produce in the brain.

The body produces all the vitamin D it needs from small amounts of UV and eating the right foods. Anything surplus can be toxic.

    Joker 10,

How apt your name is dear, but I’m afraid you are totally wrong, as the facts speak for themselves with me. I was always so ill during the winter that I needed several doses of antibiotics plus steroids plus the flu jab to scrape by with my emphysema, bronchitis and colds, sniffles and sore throats.

Since swopping all the pharmaceuticals for the D3, I have been able to breathe much better, I have not been to the Doctor every month nor taken any antibiotics or steroids for the last 2 years.

My lung function has improved greatly, and my Doctors records will prove this. Feel good factor? Too right, that’s the only thing you may have got correct.

Oh Dear, it would appear L.A. is living in LA LA Land!… Ha, i’m so clever!

Don’t suppose you happened to notice the disclaimer at the bottom of every page on the website you put a link to?

*These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. These products are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.

No, i’m sure you didn’t notice, but then psychiatric problems can be a result of toxic levels of Vitamin D!

Vitamin D overdose is very real and can lead to mental retardation and physical deformities in foetus’s, so i think it is in fact very dangerous for you to be recomending these high intake levels when you clearly have no idea of the possible consequences!

I’m sure you are feeling better in yourself, but i’m afraid it could be any number of reasons and not because of the ridiculous amounts of Vitamin D you are ingesting.

    Still, gotta Laugh.

As in previous years, an ordinary “bog standard” flu injection is not available this year, it is mixed with the “swine flu” vaccine, and the toxins that is contained in it.

How sad that most of the posts on this site come from the angle that the ‘flu injection a) benefits you, b) actually works, c) is non-toxic.
I once put a full explanation on my website – no room for it here, explaining that, for example, it offers virtually no benefit to people over 60. Or that it contains a number of highly toxic ingredients – such as squalene. It has been proven that mass vaccination does not reduce – in fact it increases – the number of hospital admissions.
And if you are one of those who have it every year, better start praying for your health. The cumulative effect of the toxins in the vaccination after 5 years of having it don’t bear thinking about.
The best protection against ‘flu is not vaccination, but a healthy immune system. Less stress, proper diet, more sun (I know that’s not easy in our rubbish weather, but how many get the ‘flu’ in summer?
Sadly, too many are taken in by propaganda and ‘big pharma’ marketing. If you knew how corrupt the big drug compaines are, you’d never take any of their products.

#28 It must be great to have a healthy immune system but we don’t all get that choice, no matter how stress-free, healthy and full of sun our lives are.

The absolute best protection is the whole population following basic hygiene procedures, but if I held my breath for that to happen I’d asphyxiate! And because some people are too lazy or stupid to wash their hands properly or cover their mouths when they sneeze/cough those with very weak immune systems (and that’s a heck of a lot of people) have to practically quarantine themselves. People seem to think that the flights they have booked or even just doing some Christmas shopping is more important than the health of those they come into contact with.

Yeah…that’s like saying the MMR vaccination causes autism in children…

Is it the cost of paying £10 for a vaccine the problem or the fact that nothing in the world will make anyone happy? When the swine flu pandemic broke, everyone saying the govt’s not prepared etc etc and people are dropping like flies across the world..and now that we’ve got it, its the cost (come on..£10)…it’s too toxic…its too early to tell if there are going to long term harm.

So what is it going to take? Even if it is free, I bet its going to be something else that someone’s going to be unhappy about!

(btw..generally autism runs in family, largely a genetic disease and mumps, menigitis and rubella definitely aint!!)

Oh dear, here you go again, still looking in that mirror, throwing out a question to me, then answering it yourself, incorrectly I hasten to add, due to your narrowmindedness, and the fact that it is you who are not listening.

Of course I know what all the sites I read say, but I am not going to blindly believe only Government propoganda as Gospel, and have poisins injected into my body by a ‘firm’ that makes vast fortunes by, in reality, keeping people ill, inventing pandemics and in the case of Baxter sending out 72kg of contaminated vaccines to 16 countries.!
The USA signed a document which freed polititians and pharmaceutical companies from all responsibilities associated with unexpected side effects of the swine flu vaccine. So when the actual manufacturers of the vaccine absolves itself from responsibility for what it is producing, that really is as you say…..

    Dear L.A.

Does Vitamin D overdose also cause eyesight problems along with the numerous known other maladies?

In which of my comments have i said that the “Flu Jab” should be taken?… Thats right, none of them, i don’t really have an opinion on it, I’ve never had it myself but then i also never get the flu! Having said that, i don’t believe there is any great conspiracy over it either… Bet you think we’ve never been to the moon, JFK was assassinated for his views on cheese and you are wearing a hat made from tinfoil right now!

I’m simply stating that the views you have on overdosing on vitamin D are dangerous and should be read with extreme caution by anyone not wishing to make themselves ill.

… I’m curious, who would you believe if your GP (who is part of the global conspiracy) told you you had cancer and recomended you begin a course of chemotherapy immediately, but Janice from Bingo, who is also a “Healer”, told you it was a nasty case of eczema that could easily be cleared up with a poultice of used tea bags, kitty litter and bat saliva twice daily… I’m betting you’ll go for Bingo Janice every time!

    Still laughing.

I believe you are confusing toxicity with hypersensitivity.

Undoubtedly, there are people with undiagnosed vitamin D hypersensitivity syndromes who “might” be damaged by an excessive intake of vitamin D. In the same way as there are people who “might” be damaged by an excessive intake of water…yet that doesn’t make water dangerous, does it?

We all know that the body makes its own vitamin D when we go out in the sun–that’s the way nature intended things. However, exposure to the sun is blamed for malignant melanoma. As a result, people tend to avoid sun exposure…notwithstanding that, the incidence of fatal skin cancer continues to rise.

So, maybe lying on the beach increases the risk of skin cancer but, maybe it’s a much smarter thing to do than risk dying of a ‘vitamin-D-deficiency-linked’ illness…or maybe regular intake of a vitamin D supplement avoids both evils!

In all cases, we must weigh up all the pros and cons and draw our own conclusions based on all risk factors.
