Day off for the Royal Wedding
Friday 21st January 2011, 2:58PM GMT.

Prince William and Kate Middleton on the day of their engagement
ISLANDERS will get a day off on Friday 29 April to mark the Royal Wedding.
The States have agreed to make the day of the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton a public holiday.
But it is not clear what the change will mean for the school holidays – children are meant to return to school on Thursday 28 April for the start of the summer term. As things stand, that would mean children coming back to school for a single day and then immediately having another day off.
The Education department are expected to decide what, if anything, to do about the holiday dates in the next few days. Catholic schools have already decided to have the extra day off before the wedding.

Francis Le Gresley has to scrabble about robbing peter to pay paul for a quarter of a million to keep old people warm…yet we can blow more than a million on paying states employees to have a frivolous day off as some royal is getting wed…. Politicians priorities up their a**** OR what

1 Truthseeker – well said, and what about struggling small businesses laying people off now having to find an extra days holiday. I can tell you that in the real world ( outside the cocoon of public sector protection ) employees will be working as normal or losing their jobs, banks and large financial institutions excepted.
Can’t remember a better time to be heading for an election, I know what my questions is going to be at the hustings meetings – please remove your trousers so I can see if you have got your head firmly lodged up your ar*e.
Now watch Real Truthseeker/Bob Cratchett/whatever his name is this week disagree.

That’s why the work ethic is associated with a different branch of the faith?

On the contrary the monarchy brings in over 3 Billion pounds a year in tourist revenue to the UK. Thats £3,000,000,000, they cost the taxpayer £40 million a year for the whole family, I’d say even given my limited understanding of economics that they are an extraordinary asset to the country.

Makes me laugh that last year we couldn’t afford Liberation day off. Celebration of the freedom of our Island, means nothing to them, while brown nosing the Royals gets a near unanimous vote! We need to get these clueless states members out. Also, the sooner Britain becomes a Republic the better.

And Catholic schools have an extra day off which are subsidised by the tax payer and the other schools don,t,,, thats what i call joined up thinking

What a load of miseries! Its not all about money. Would be nice and educational actually, as it will be history, for the children to watch it. If I was a parent of a states school child I would keep them off anyway. Whats the point in going in for 1 day? I do agree though that it shows typical lack of island pride that we can have this off and not our Liberation day! That is not right at all!

Mona lot 6.
The Royals don’t cost the taxpayer anything.
In short, the Queen gives all the income from the royal estates to the British government in return for an annual payment. The estates produce far more than £37m, so, the British taxpayer is on the right end of the “royal” bargain.
Plus, we must not forget all the revenue that comes from tourism and every business that moves around the Royal family. Apparently, the Royal Wedding is expected to bring in more revenue than the next Olympic games!
