Celebrities lined up for big events

CELEBRITIES from the world of business and comedy will speak at major events to be held in the Island in the coming weeks.

Scottish comedian Fred MacAuley will be guest speaker at the Jersey Funds Association annual dinner.

The original female Dragon from Dragon’s Den, Rachel Elnaugh, will talk to the Institute of Chartered secretaries and Administrators.

And the main speaker at the Jersey Enterprise Awards will be former Businesswoman of the Year Heather Rabbatts. She will address what is the biggest business event of the year, which will be held at Fort Regent’s Queen’s Hall on Friday 4 March.

It always made me laugh when Rachel Elnaugh was held up as some sort of business guru by appearing on Dragon’s Den as one of the judges. Her main business venture that she was/is known for was “Red Letter Days” which went spectacularly bust leaving many unsecured creditors high and dry. Perhaps she is also appearing for her mirth making potential?

I’ve not heard of any of them either. However, I have heard of David Beckham, Victoria Beckham, Russell Brand, Katy Perry, Leona Lewis, Alexandra Burke, Elle Mcpherson, Sugababes, Beverley Knight, Sophie Ellis-Bexter, Ivanka Trump, Fearne Cotton, Katie Price, Sadie Frost, James Degale, Rebecca Adlington, Amir Khan, Usain Bolt, Heather Watson, Mike Tyson, Roy Jones Junior who have donated clothes for the Jersey Fashion Show

How will we be able to tell the comedians from the business people, will they be introduced in 2 different categories, if no comedians are available can Baggins Le Sueur do his stand up routine?

Sam, you are in good company. Until now I had not heard of Fred MacAuley, Rachel Elnaugh or Heather Rabbatts.

I have no idea who are Katy Perry, Leona Lewis, Alexandra Burke, Elle Mcpherson, Sugababes, Beverley Knight, Sophie Ellis-Bexter (sic), Ivanka Trump, Fearne Cotton, , Sadie Frost, James Degale, Rebecca Adlington, Amir Khan, Usain Bolt, Heather Watson or Roy Jones Junior.

I have heard of Katie Price and Mike Tyson but would be unable to put a face to either of them.

I think that just leaves the Beckhams. Unfortunately one can not easily escape them as even the quality newspapers are now embracing celebrity culture.

Why not have Hedley? I would recognise him, not the least, from ‘ees tractor.
