‘Duped’ names will be removed from Sack Ozouf petition
Wednesday 26th January 2011, 2:57PM GMT.

Ted Vibert with the petition signed by more than 10,000 people
ORGANISERS have promised to remove the signatures of anyone who feels that they were tricked into signing the ‘sack Ozouf’ petition.
Several people have come forward saying that they were duped into signing the petition because they were told it was part of a campaign to fight GST.
Although the Jersey Democratic Alliance, who are behind the petition, have denied misleading anyone, they say that anyone who feels they have been misled should contact them and they will remove their signatures.
In a message to the JEP yesterday, JDA president Ted Vibert said that all the signatories had to do was send him an email or phone him.

KIT 4 CLUBS
Win a share of £10,000
2012 is the year of the London Olympics and to celebrate this great event the Jersey Evening Post, in association with sponsors Ogier is giving all sporting clubs a chance to win a share of £10,000.
Even if they anticipated this response they know that many won’t be bothered to contact them for their names t be removed. This leaves the JDA with a list that they will say is an accurate representation of those wanting Ozeuf sacked.
A complete farce start to finish, is this what passes for opposition politics in Jersey?
The whole petition is a farce – and should be dumped
Report abuse
Tell then to scrap the whole thing – start again, but this time let the JDA be honest and say how they will make up the shortfall that scrapping gst would involve
Report abuse
The petition wasn’t worth the paper it was written on – it was based on lies.

4. Bob, I am fed up with people like you constantly inviting the Left to say what they would do instead.
They are saying what they would do all the time, the problem is, idiots like you aren’t interested in listening. It’ll take you 5 minutes on Google to find plenty of articles and websites outlining the JDAs position or other anti-cuts States Members. But my guess is you won’t bother, because you prefer just sitting at your computer and complaining because it makes you feel like a big man.
Do us all a favour and drop the sound bites and debate like an intellectual.

“In a message to the JEP yesterday, JDA president Ted Vibert said that all the signatories had to do was send him an email or phone him”
…… and he will add their names to his current petition.

Mandy and some politicians manifestoes weren’t?
As the establishment are doing their best to discredit this petition I would run a new one asking everyone whether they would like Ozouf removed from office. Have a petition lodged at each of the parish halls would help as well.
You never know you might get 20,000. It’s definately worth a try.
I do find it odd people didn’t have a clue what they were signing. Maybe the same could be applied to voting?
would mr vibert please tell us if children and visitors were allowed to sign the petition and if it was so, does he think that was right for the democracy of the island
Report abuse
So if M Mouse e-mails him a couple of thousand signatures will be removed?
myself and my daughter both signed the petition after we were approached in town to sign against gst I DO feel we were completly misled, I will be looking alot closer to what i sign in the future.
why not run a petition on the adoption of clothier?

The JDA should be ashamed of themselves and if they can do this to non the wiser people on the Streets just imagine how dangerous they would be in power!
Sam – think you’re missing the point – one party spouts a pack of lies and entices anybody passing the street to sign a doutful petition, and your saying to hear their “true” position you have to spenf 5 minutes trawling the internet – that sounds really transparent to me – wake up – and face the facts – they are deceitful – and deliberately so !
I have been in Jersey for 2 months now, as part of a 4 mmonth secondment – I was apprached by the guys in the street asking me to sign the petition – which I didn’t – I have subsequently seem the fuss in the local paper.
You people seem to act like some third world country – with dodgy people telling blatent lies – you should kick this Vibert man out – he is a disgrace to your country

Having singed the G.S.T petition and now finding that I singed to sack Phill, it matter’s not one jot to me as I think the Later will accomplish the former. It,s the untruth that is hard to take from Ted ex MAN of the pepole

What’s this rubbish about Ted (man of the people) I’m 68 years old, and as far as I remember – he’s been an agitator and cynic – he’ll always promise the earth – but has never been capable of delivering anything – I think he’s based his entire career on the basis that ” you can fool most of the people, most of the time” – and he’s certainly managed to fool many on Jersey !
He should be bared of the island for his own safety.
How can you be leaving in Jersey knowing that 10 000 people actually hate what you are doing.
I couldn’t sleep at night.
At least the point is that 10000 people have a problem with GST and I am still wondering how come food is more expensive than the Uk without GST.Jersy Royales are more expensive here. What world do we live in??? Knowing that: they add GST on food????
What can you find in a supermarket for under a £1.
Sack him

Like anyone can be bothered to write in or email. Just hassle. This whole petition is a farce. It means nothing, and I hope its not even given a moment’s thought by the States assembly
The JDA should be ashamed of themselves. I’m ashamed of them in view of Jersey politics

13. Bob
And again with your pathetic comments. You really need to pull the wool from your eyes and look at the world from an balanced point of view instead of your anti-left cynicism. Cynicism helps no one. By all means be sceptic and come up with a sensible argument, but don’t spout the nonsense you are here.
The JDA did not spout a pack of lies (if you want an example of a pack of lies, check Ozoufs election manifesto!). Just because 3 people (according the JEP, though there is no way of proving any claims) have complained (thats 3/10,000 signatories, or 0.03%) does not count for squat. That means 9,997 were happy. That means 99.97% are happy. D’ya get the point yet?
If you think 5 minutes on Google isn’t transparent enough then I would say you are a man with very high standards, however seeing as you’re an establishment stooge, probably not…
Also, I never said I “see the truth”. I am a simple person who see’s what I see, whether its truth or not, so don’t attribute that quote to me. I don’t claim to see the truth, and I am not a supporter of the JDA. But I see these articles and your nonsensical comments and I just don’t buy your mantra because it just doesn’t reflect anything close to the facts in front of us and I am just bored of imbeciles as yourself spreading your cynicism.

‘I have been in Jersey for 2 months now, as part of a 4 mmonth secondment’
Next time, if there is a next time, Michael, see if you can get a secondment during four of the half decent months of the year.
It’s alleged to be the warmest place in Britain. It’s getting hotter for Ozouf!

I’m with Bob on this one.

I think the moral of the story is to read what your signing. It’s too easy to put your name to something, everyone is in such a rush!
If you don’t have time to stop and read what you are about to sign don’t!!
If you sign something without reading the information on the document you are signing then I’m sorry to say you need to take responsibility for your actions and stop blaming others!
However, as there is a question over people unwittingly signing, perhaps it is best to start again as it appears there are those who feel strongly about the GST rise and those that feel strongly about Mr Ozouf’s position – I am sure with the strength of feeling they would make the effort to sign whichever petition is applicable for them.
There is a clear and pathetic attempt on here to rubbish the petition,,hairsplitting not withstanding….over 9,000 people would not sign anything if they were happy with the status quo….keep it simple people we are cheesed off with being taxed more all the time to fund the Govt’s out of control expenditure,,,,do you all just keep giving more and more pocket money to an irresponsible kid who can’t explain what they have done with what you’ve already given them..and is now back for more…?
Sam accuses Bob of being nonsensical, and then asserts that if people didn’t actively complain then they must be happy. What twaddle. I would excuse the naivety as Sam probably wasn’t there when the JDA were petitioning – the vast majority of people I saw heard the shouting, decided that they didn’t like rising prices and signed the piece of paper before merrily going about their business. Not a lot of thought in all probability, and less time spent than it takes to buy a packet of sweeties. But it’s a free country Sam, carry on mis-interpreting.
Mike you claim people didn’t know what they were signing. What about those at the ballot box who believed what they were told? What about them should we have a re-vote? After all they didn’t know what they had signed up for did they, or do you think this is fine and dandy?
