Steve Williams

THE British Ambassador to Bulgaria has been appointed as Jersey and Guernsey’s ‘man in Europe’.

Steve Williams will take up the post of director of European Affairs at the islands’ joint Brussels office on 4 April.

Mr Williams is the current Ambassador to Bulgaria and has worked for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office for almost 30 years, serving in Oslo, Buenos Aires, Sofia and Brussels.

His previous posting in Brussels was with the UK’s permanent representation there.
Mr Williams said he was honoured to have been appointed on behalf of the people of the Channel Islands.

One has to ask who it is or who’s back-room agenda is really running the Channel Islands – our own Island in particular. Once again an outside carpetbagger has been appointed to represent the Island and our “independent” interests before the Beast in Brussels.

Apparently there are no qualified native Islanders who know enough to fill this post – preferably, someone local people have grown up with and known over time, a local individual in whom we could have the confidence and trust to champion and protect our traditional, sovereign and independent rights and interests in the face of an ever encroaching European Dictatorship.

Besides having lots of experience “working” with the Bulgarian thug-like regime, who is this specially appointed Mr Williams? Who was behind his appointment? Who’s agenda, besides his own, does he really serve? Surely it is not yours or mine; surely not Jersey’s – although the Jersey taxpayer will be expected to pick up the tab for both him and his “European” expenses – a decision that appears to have been imposed upon us without either advise or our consent.

But this is what the money boys in the back room want and they couldn’t give a damn whether or not their boy – this Williams bloke, knows anything about vraic, cotils or ormers; not to mention the Clameur – Haro! Haro! Haro! A l’aide, mon Prince!

Maybe while he’s there he can ask why i have a stamp in my passport saying i am not entitled to EU benefits and employment yet there seem to be many europeans in Jersey entitled to benefits and employment.

As detailed by Peter Body the Jersey economy and finance in particular has shrunk since 1998.
But public expenditure and the number of ministers, directors, assistant directors, ambassadours, etc seems to grow inexorably.
Geoff Cook, Phillip Ozouf and a gang of advisers and bag carriers go on regular jaunts to India and China and representative offices are opened in London, Brussels and Hong Kong.
Meanwhile at home; museums are closing, life guards and language teachers are disappearing, some departments like Health, Education and Home seem to run outside any control by the Minister, St Helier has a fine collection of boarded up shops that could soon rival some run down UK towns and more besides.
I guess we will have a few more reform debates from the States this year instead of holding MInisters to account and the CoM will continue as the same uncontrolled rabble under the hopeless and ineffectual Terry le Sueur.
    So business as usual! :-(

This person has not even been to Jersey so how does he know how the Island operate, Am I the only one to notice that we are not part of the EU and is this why we cannot have a local person standing because they would not get a work permit to live and represent us in Brussels this is beggers believe!!!! Why not make Senator Cohen have this as additional responsibilty for his new role also, this will save on another salary and how much will this Mr Williams get paid by us as I am sure that it will not go back into Jersey. The States must think of the big circle/picture and not spend it on outsiders who will so call represent us I think NOT!!!

He might just be the right person to spread the news that many people can’t afford to visit the dentist in Jersey.
