This petition isn’t worth the paper it is written on

From Edward Trevor.
THE Jersey Democratic Alliance has only one Member of the States and its latest petition is just a way of obtaining publicity prior to the elections due later this year.
Although at the last normal election for Deputies there were four JDA members, three resigned from the party even though they seem to vote together with other ‘opposition’ members.
In opposition, which the JDA certainly is, it is important to be constructive rather than destructive: the former wins friends and the latter just makes one look foolish.
As far as the petition is concerned, it is, in my opinion, a complete waste.
Most people will sign almost anything put in front of them. I have seen two petitions for diametrically opposite arguments signed by the same people within a few minutes. They sign and have little idea for what they are signing.
The majority of ministers and assistant ministers are working long hours for the benefit of the people of Jersey. To ‘demand’ the resignation of Senator Ozouf is anti-democratic when he was
elected by an Islandwide electorate, and he is doing an excellent job
in trying to persuade his colleagues and their departments to reduce spending to avoid even more tax rises.
The States should ignore this petition, which is not worth the paperit is written on, and concentrate on saving money by spending less, making departments more efficient and backing the sane and sensible States Members.
