More work needed on speed limits, say group

Friday 28th January 2011, 2:56PM GMT.

Scrutiny Panel chairman Deputy Phil Rondel

TOO many important questions remain unanswered about proposed changes to Island speed limits, say a group of States backbenchers.

The Environment Scrutiny panel has spoken out about plans put forward by the Transport Minister which include making the limit in built-up areas and on all roads without a centre line 30 mph, increasing the limit in green lanes from 15 mph to 20 mph and looking at introducing UK-style penalty points for motoring infractions.

The panel also want Islanders to have their say and are inviting comments about the minister’s proposals.

Anyone wishing to comment should contact the panel with their submission by 25 February. Submissions should be sent to the Scrutiny office, Morier House, Halkett Place, or by email to scrutiny@gov.je.

The Transport Minister’s proposals can be found at www.statesassembly. gov.je under propositions.

Any chance you can put this constant speed limit changing nonsense to one side for a few years and get on with doing some meaningful work whilst you are still emplyed by the tax payers.

simple leave it as it is .
no need to waste time talking over the new proposals.
then use the time to combat rising prises and taxation. unemployment and afforable housing.
the motorist is a sitting duck and hounded at every turn.
