Jersey to have Police Authority
Thursday 3rd February 2011, 2:57PM GMT.

Home Affairs Minister Ian Le Marquand
JERSEY is to have its own Police Authority after States Members unanimously agreed to de-politicise the Island’s police force.
There was nothing but praise for Home Affairs Minister Ian Le Marquand in the Chamber yesterday as his proposal to establish the body as a buffer between his role and the States of Jersey Police was adopted unanimously.
It was particularly welcomed by Members who had expressed serious concerns about the conduct of some officers of the States of Jersey Police in recent years and was repeatedly described as a ‘step in the right direction’.

It is a great leap forward.
Lets hope that we never get a ridiculous situation with the media like what Lenny Harper and Graham Power cooked up ever again.

Well that’s a start for democracy in Jersey. Maybe they are watching Egypt.

Brilliant idea and long overdue but depends on the make up of the authority and its teeth

Long overdue the abscece of one has allowed countless miserynot to mention the failed relationship between the electorate and the police..we just need to be rid of this dreadful Pace law now, retain habeus Corpus, innocent till proven guilty and the principle of reasonable doubt…that’s the real challenge.

Why has Ian Le Marquand been praised? They have been promising this for years….his decision making skills have two speeds – dead slow and stop!

Everybody know that Jersey police have it easy if you look at what they do for what they get paid…
They are to busy catching people urinating in the streets (while there is no Public toilet to go to, or probably closed if you happen to need a pee after 7.00pm)
Or busy stopping fights at 2.00am on a taxi rank.If clubs were open later and if you could buy food after 1.00am people will go home at different time on a full stomach. No need to have a diploma to work that one at.

And please can we have some ordinary folk with their feet on the ground and in touch with reality rather than the usual….disconnected afternoon tea and stickies set..
