Getting ready to sprinkle stardust
Thursday 17th February 2011, 3:00PM GMT.
THE public could decide two winners at this year’s Jersey Sports Council awards as part of a huge makeover to the annual ceremony.
Although the venue for the event remains the same, the Hotel Ambassadeur, organisers have made plenty of other changes and hope to inject a more glamorous and modern feel to the occasion.
A guest speaker will be arranged, special programmes will be printed, and Islanders could be given the opportunity to vote for their Sports Person of the Year and Team of the Year.
The Sid Guy and Colin Welsh memorial awards will remain as well as the Achievement in Disability Sport honour while the bursary awards and certificates of merit will continue to feature as part of the night.
Council chairman, Hugh Raymond, said: ‘It is a very exciting time for the Sports Council. As a new chairman I thought it was time to change things up a bit and so this year’s ceremony is going to be totally different.’
