Last year's awards evening

THE organisers of the Jersey Enterprise Awards have refuted claims that taxpayers cash is used to pay for the event.

The ninth annual awards gala dinner is being held at Fort Regent early next month and has attracted a record number of entries.

About 100 nominations have been made for the eight award categories this year. And there are 44 submissions for the three main categories of small, medium and large business of the year, which is an increase compared to all of the previous eight years.

It was claimed last month by Senator Francis Le Gresley that £75,000 of taxpayers’ money was put towards the event.

However, this is totally denied by organisers who say that contributions from sponsors combined with ticket sales cover the costs of staging the biggest business event of the year in the Channel Islands.
