Jersey at top table of Brussels meeting

States director of international affairs Tom Walker

JERSEY was represented at a meeting of major European finance centres in Brussels last week.

Among the centres to send officials to the meeting were the City of London, Frankfurt, Munich, Paris, Madrid and Luxembourg, while the Dutch and Swedish nations also had representatives in attendance.

Subjects covered included EU plans for regulation of financial services as well as the competitiveness of European financial centres. Discussions were also held with the European Banking Federation and with the Cabinet of the EU Commissioner responsible for financial services and internal markets.

Jersey was represented by the States director of international affairs Tom Walker.

    Can I please apply for the post of States Deputy Director of International Affairs. Must be worth at least £200k per year plus pension just to be kicked around a bit by the EU/OECD !

    How many more humiliations can these hubristic time wasters inflict on us?
    London and Frankfurt are huge exchanges, even Paris and Madrid are massive compared with the entire capital invested through the island.
    But we have to send a sad little sock puller along to play catch up every time!
