40 local charities to benefit from 40th swimarathon
Friday 25th February 2011, 2:56PM GMT.
A TOTAL of 40 charities will benefit from the money raised during this year’s Swimarathon to mark each time the event has taken place.
This year’s event at Les Quennevais Leisure Centre, St Brelade, between 9 to 13 March, will be the 40th Swimarathon.
The Lions Club for Jersey, which organises the annual fundraiser, decided to broaden the scope of the donations this year so that smaller charities, such as Greyhound Rescue Jersey, would benefit.
Peter Tabb, from the Lions Club, said: ‘We changed our criteria a little this year with the hope that we could appeal to a wide number of charities.
‘The applications we received came from all sorts of charities and we are delighted that the efforts of thousands of Islanders who will take part in the Swimarathon will reach into so many areas of Island life.’
