Another UK system – it will all end in tears

From Mike Pitman
UNLIKE many people, I have never really resented paying my income tax, treating it as a necessary evil, although as a young man with an active social life in the pre-ITIS days, I sometimes found it hard to raise the wherewithal to pay it.

Of course in those days, business contributed most of the Treasury’s income and we all enjoyed a genuine personal low tax regime. Happy days.

Now each month however, I pine for those days and gaze longingly at my pay slip and the substantial ITIS deduction from my very average salary which is always shorter than the month, knowing that a tranche of the money taken from my pocket is actually going to provide benefits which give certain people a far higher standard of living than I can myself afford. Something wrong, surely?

I read in the JEP that the benefits system is based on the UK one. Why cannot the States grasp the inescapable fact that anything we slavishly import from the UK is bound to end in tears?

Policing and especially its leadership, and education spring readily to mind. Now we are creating a benefits-dependent sector which I truly cannot remember voting for.

    Overpopulated

I quite agree, the welare system is insanity and will bankrupt the island. Soon all the tax will go to pay for people to do nothing – no money for hospitals, education or anything else.

We cant adopt a UK system again, look at the mess its in!!

Education? Don’t even get me started, look at the state of UK public schools again, thats immigration for you and influx of people who really should be sorting out their own Governments before freeloading and making it harder for everyone else. Look at the problems the UK has with immigration and Benefits, crime, prostitution, drugs, its worse than ever before.

We are not part of the EU and nor do we want to be, look at all the EU countries that struggle and are constantly being bailed out, and look at the attitude local people are having to deal with from Eastern Europeans, Portguese/Madierans et al.

It’s not working, never will and it will get worse. I don’t have an issue with J Cats or people who are able to support themselves, take a leaf out of Australias book please and quick smart before it gets worse.
